Covid-19: KCB Bank contributes Ksh150M

Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) has contributed Shs.150 million towards emergency interventions to cushion vulnerable citizens affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The funds will be channelled through the COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund formed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to support Kenyans during this crisis.

 “We stand with the nation to help limit the spread of the virus and ease the related economic hardships faced by the communities in which we operate,” KCB Group CEO and MD Joshua Oigara said in a press statement sent to newsrooms today.

“This pandemic is a new test of our collective strength and we must work together to address it. We are committed to play our part to support this initiative and complement the Government’s effort in empowering the most vulnerable in our midst,” said Mr. Oigara who is also a Board Member of the Fund chaired by Jane Karuku.

The contribution is in addition to the other measures the Bank has taken to cushion the customer and other stakeholders against the raging impact of coronavirus.

These initiatives include a Kshs. 20m donation to the Ministry of ICT in-kind of public advertisement, to fund the public health campaign.

President Kenyatta last month directed that the National Treasury forms COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund to mobilise resources aimed at mitigating effects of COVID-19 in the Country.

The Emergency Response Fund has since received donations from various corporate organisations, key among them Office of Director of Public Prosecution, Cooperative Bank, World Bank, and Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission among others.

The Board Chair Jane Karuku has assured the Country that they  will account to the last coin donated by institutions and Kenyans of goodwill so as to help the government battle the virus which started in Wuhan,China.
