A section of the board members, parents and stakeholders of Agoro Sare High School in Homa Bay county have called upon office of Director Public Prosecutions, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, Education cabinet secretary George Magoha and the Teachers Service Commission to investigate the school’s principal who is accused of mismanagement.
They blame the principal of running down one of the most prestigious schools in the region.
They accuse the principal Momanyi Aduke of running the school as his personal property, nepotism as well as going contrary to the ministry of Education’s rules as well as flouting procurement rules.
They say should the principal not be removed from the school before January, they will block his entry into the school when schools reopen next term.
A cross section of parents interviewed said that the said money is paid to the school’s bursar directly and in cash without a receipt being given with the principal saying that any parent who cannot pay the money should look for an alternative school.
Some parents say that the situation is so bad that if nothing is done, then they will be forced to remove their children from the school as the principal who ought to be the CEO of the school, is always out of the school, shuttling to attend to his personal business concerns, leaving the school with no guiding figure as school activities come to a standstill.
They say Aduke tells them that whoever does not want his child to be punished as corporal punishment which is the norm in the school should go elsewhere. The stakeholders have now called for auditing of the school’s books of accounts stating that the principal has enriched himself through school funds and has built houses in Nyamira and Kisii counties where he operates a chain of matatus in form of a Sacco where he is an official and operates Kisii-Nyamira and Kisii-Kisumu routes.
The principal is said to be also single sourcing for contractors and suppliers contrary to procurement rules which has brought him into conflict with the board members, parents and stakeholders who are unhappy with his management style.
His wife supplies bread and cereals to the school while his sisters are the main suppliers of groceries despite the same being available in plenty within the surrounding.
They also accuse the principal of constant failure to implement the board’s decisions despite numerous reminders an example being the school’s strategic plan.
