Bliss GVS Healthcare limited’s response to floods

CGSince Govt issued warnings in April of impending floods &urged Kenyans living in flood/landslide-prone areas to move to safer ground, several Counties have been affected with 164 lives lost and thousands displaced.

Dr. Asha Mohammed said the flooding has completely destroyed over 400 homes and damaged many more. Vehicles were submerged, streets swamped and communities were marooned. Four people died in the flooding in Kibera on the evening of 13 May.
Bliss Healthcare limited in conjunction with the county government of Busia distributed food to affected families after Budalangi was the worst of those affected.
CS Eugine Wamalwa also represented the government and urged residents to move to higher ground &allow construction of proposed dams &dykes by Govt as a long term solution to the floods
In 2020, more than 1800 families were displaced by floods in Alego Usonga Sub County in Siaya following the overflow of River Nzoia. The Kenya Red Cross in partnership with the Bliss Healthcare limited, National & County Government evacuated the families to safety in various centers in the Sub County

Government Minister Eugene L. Wamalwa said on 13 May that 237 lives have now been lost due to flooding that began in April – a jump from 194 fatalities announced last week. A total of 161,000 households (over 800,000 people) have now been affected across the country.
“The flood situation in the country has worsened, we have thousands displaced across the country and as a government, we are reaching out to all areas with humanitarian Support even as we come up with long-term mitigation solutions. The floods and rising water levels in all our lakes and rivers are unprecedented and the devastation overwhelming. Lake Victoria last reached these levels in the 1950s and Lake Naivasha last reached these levels in 1961.”
Sixteen people died and over 2,000 families were displaced in the central counties of Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Laikipia, Nyeri, and Kiambu. Flooding began on 10 May after heavy rain caused several rivers to overflow, including the Sagana.
Meanwhile flooding from the Tana river in the east of the country (mostly Garissa and Tana River counties) and the Nzoia river in the west continues (mostly Busia and Siaya counties) to affect thousands. Kenya Red Cross said some families in Tana River County have been marooned for over six days.
Jayesh Saini is currently setting up another 6 facilities geographically spread in Kenya bringing total bed capacity to 2000.
